College Dorm Kit

The Como College Dorm Kit Program is designed to assist students in their transition to campus life by providing essential items needed for dorm living. Each kit includes a variety of supplies, such as bedding, toiletries, snacks, and study materials, ensuring that students have the necessary tools to settle into their new environment comfortably.

This program aims to ease the adjustment process for students by offering practical support and resources as they embark on their academic journey. In 2024, the program received applications from 30 students, reflecting a growing need for this type of assistance in the community. The number of applicants is increasing, highlighting the program’s importance in supporting students during this significant time. The kits are available to students who may benefit from additional assistance during this important transition.

Friday Night Lights College Prep Workshop

The Friday Night Lights College Prep Workshop is a core initiative of Como Lions Heart’s Friday Night Lights program, created to ensure high school seniors are fully prepared for life after graduation. This workshop focuses on college readiness, accountability, and intentional planning for students entering higher education.

We recognize that many students have the desire to attend college but may need additional guidance, structure, and support. This program bridges that gap while reinforcing responsibility and commitment.

Program Overview

  • Target Group: High School Seniors (Class of 2026)

  • Location: Como Community Center

  • Duration: 6 weeks

  • Schedule: Every Wednesday

  • Dates: January 21 – February 25, 2026

What the Workshop Covers

Throughout the six weeks, students will receive support and instruction focused on:

  • Preparing for the transition from high school to college

  • Understanding expectations of college life

  • Building responsibility, time management, and goal-setting skills

  • Planning for housing, dorm life, and campus readiness

  • Completing required steps tied to post-secondary success

This workshop is designed to create a strong foundation while ensuring students are prepared, informed, and supported.

College Dorm Kit Program Requirement

Participation in the College Prep Workshop is mandatory for any student who wishes to receive a dorm kit through the Como Lions Heart College Dorm Kit Program.

Students must:

  • Register for the workshop

  • Attend and complete all required sessions

Failure to complete the workshop will result in ineligibility for the College Dorm Kit Program.
